Health and Safety

Safety is paramount to the success of MMA’s operations. The safety of MMA’s employees and contractors is MMA’s highest priority, which is reflected in the Stop Work Obligation program, empowering employees with the confidence to identify and call a stop to any unsafe operations.

MMA’s commitment to an incident free environment with Zero Impact is evident by the commitment of a dedicated Safety Department working together with all employees and contractors to continuously improve work practices, in the aim of achieving best practice in all operations.

Zero Impact involves the commitment of MMA management making available required resources and committing to ongoing training programs to ensure that personnel are kept abreast of the latest practices, legal requirements and the development of safety leadership behaviours.

A critical element in this process is the implementation of MMA’s Behavioural Based Safety System. "MATES" My Approach Towards Everyone's Safety encourages behavioural observations to be undertaken, promoting an open learning culture through the identification and reduction of unsafe behaviours occurring in the workplace. The MATES observations reinforce safe behaviours and assist in identifying the causes of unsafe behaviour.

Environment

MMA's commitment to ecological sustainable development is demonstrated within its environmental management plans, procedures and policies. The Company's Environmental Management System (EMS) is integrated into the Integrated Business Management System. The EMS is aligned to 14001, with formal certification to this international standard set as a primary environmental goal within the HSEQ Annual Plan.

To demonstrate compliance to all required regulations, licences and the Company's Ministerial Conditions (Ministerial Statement No. 535) MMA compiles an Annual Environmental Compliance Report (AECR). The AECR details the results of extensive monitoring programs, including water and sediment monitoring, bio-monitoring and mangrove rehabilitation and monitoring. In addition to the compilation of the AECR, MMA has conducted a number of internal environmental compliance audits, whilst also being audited by clients and regulatory bodies.

Quality

MMA operates an Integrated Business Management System that is certified to both the ISO 9001:2008 Quality Standard and ISM Code. The IBMS incorporates quality, safety, environment, security and fiscal responsibilities of the Company, based on risk management principles. MMA is committed to continuously improve all processes and as such, adopts the principles of the continuous improvement model across all areas of operation.
